14 Continuing the Journey...
This chapter provides closure for the book by showing where the model students from Chapter 1 (Paula, Sam, Rene, Connie, and Steve) are now, in terms of performance. Though their growth was not uniform, each of them made important progress and critical discoveries about themselves and their goals. The centerpiece of this final chapter is the Self-Growth Paper (Activity 14.1). This capstone activity and assignment is the single best opportunity for students to reflect upon where they were when they started the course, how they have grown and learned over the semester or term, and where they are now, in terms of performance. The chapter closes with an SII Assessment of the book and the course.

Critical Reflection What is Your Current Performance Level?
The goal of this exercise is for students to begin thinking about their current level of performance, using the Continuum of Performance Levels they first encountered and used in Chapter 1. This brief exercise will help prepare them for tackling their Self-Growth Papers.
èActivities
Activity 14.1: Self-Growth Paper | In-class: Orientation/Introduction | Spans 2 class periods |
This activity gives students the opportunity to review and share what they have learned over the course of the semester or term. Students are held accountable for tracking their growth the five learning skills they selected in Chapter 1. They are instructed to use assessment and evidence (specific examples from assignments, assessments, and exercises) in discussing their growth. These 5-page papers are to be submitted for evaluation or assessment. Though the plan recommends that students assess one another's self-growth papers, it is up to the instructor to decide if this is appropriate and communicate the specific requirements of any peer assessment. |
